Detailed Biography
Dan Groover spent his childhood in Paris where his artistic journey started at age fourteen. In the beginning of the urban French Hip-Hop culture and underground Graffiti art scene, where painting in the streets and subways was a real danger, Groover found that this was the best opportunity to express his inspiration and creativity. This was a short period before Agnes B. took on the initiative to make Street Art and Graffiti more accessible through fashion and presented young unknown graffiti artists, such as Jon One.
In 1988, Groover moved his residence to the French West Indies where the change of scenery and the slower pace of life encouraged his painting to transfer from walls to canvases. Groover continued his art training in the Art School of Guadeloupe, but quickly found that academia was not fitted for Street Art and Graffiti. He was wooed by 5 stars hotels for solo exhibitions as he was a true pioneer in the Caribbean Street Art and Graffiti scene, which was new to all. Among numerous high profile projects and events, he accompanied James Brown on his Caribbean tour and was solely responsible for stage design. He also completed a 600 meter mural around the football stadium of Guadeloupe. His experience in the caribbean, connected him to iconic figures, which are still present in his current works.
In 1995, his return to Israel, it was a calling of purpose and sparked a new transition in his life and artistic approach. His in-depth studying of ancient esoteric texts nourished his artistic creativity. As Jazz and Hip Hop music, Iconic figures, Superheroes, American cultural symbols and the city of New York were (and are still), among his favourite subjects to paint, he discovered the meaning of the Hebrew Letters and more spiritual messages which are today very present in his work.
